UIL Conservation Lab Case at Open Book Exhibit

OPEN BOOK, The Book Studies Community at the University of Iowa, is the current exhibit at the Main Library. Included among the many presentations of facilities and programs related to book studies is the exhibit case representing diverse services of the Conservation Lab. Historical binding models, publications relating to book structure and examples of book conservation treatments are displayed.

Binding Model Collection at Iowa

The University of Iowa Library is building on its collection of bookbinding models. Bibliographical information will be assembled on each of the current models. The collection will then be developed over the full scope of historical binding models including the craft contexts of scribal and manuscript production, stationery trade, letterpress trade, edition binding, modern craft tradition and design binding, book conservation and artists’ books. Watch for an early web site announcement here.

A Great Guy and A Great American!

Here is an October, 1999 shot of Gabriel Rummonds attending his retrospective exhibit in Milan, Italy. The exhibit at the Biblioteca di via Senato, UN TIPOGRAFO FRA DUE CULTURE, displayed the work of Gabriel’s Plain Wrapper Press at Verona.

Another momentous achievement has been the publication of his book PRINTING ON THE IRON HANDPRESS, Oak Knoll Press & The British Library, 1998. Meanwhile, he continues as a screen writer in Seattle.
